AAPI Solidarity Statement
As a professional organization dedicated to promoting greater diversity in medicine, the Pre-Medical Honor Society stands in solidarity and support of our Asian and AAPI communities against anti-Asian violence and rhetoric.
We believe that racism is not only a social justice issue, but also a public health issue. As future healthcare providers, we share an obligation to provide equitable care to all patients, regardless of socioeconomic status, religious affiliation, gender, or ethnicity. We also share a responsibility to be vocal about the needs of the patients, as well as the disparities occuring in and out of the hospital. This includes speaking up against racism and racial discrimination.
In light of the Atlanta spa shootings and the attacks on our Asian community, our hearts ache for the victims of these tragedies. We deeply sympathize with those who endured racial stereotypes or harassment, and are living in fear of being targeted. We especially recognize that these injustices stem from our nation’s long history of systemic racism, and pledge to aid in the #StopAsianHate movement to strengthen unity, and dispel discrimination, xenophobia, and hate crimes against Asians, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.
As always, we are committed to supporting both our members and API/AAPI neighbors. With the new addition of the Diversity and Inclusion committee, we strive to facilitate discussions around cultural competence and humility, to host workshops pursuing diversity-related topics, and most importantly, to ensure a safe space for all our members to feel heard and supported.
If you would like to learn more about ways to support this community, we have compiled a list of resources at the following link and encourage you to stand in solidarity with us in supporting the API/AAPI communities: https://tinyurl.com/pmhsaapiresources

The Pre-Medical Honor Society (PMHS) is a student organization in which pre-medical students who have achieved academic excellence can further their understanding of the study and practice of medicine through various opportunities made available to our members. We are the only pre-medical organization directly sponsored by the College of Letters and Science on campus.
Member Spotlight:
Rebecca Hu (she/her)

Meet Rebecca Hu, our member of the week. Rebecca is a second-year intended Molecular & Cellular Biology Major! Here’s a brief introduction to her:
Hi! I’m Rebecca and I am a sophomore majoring in MCB (CDP Track 2) and intending on majoring in Business Administration. I’m from Ontario, Canada. My hobbies include volleyball, listening to music, watching Netflix, and baking! So far, my favorite thing at Berkeley has been Yifang (I have a boba addiction, oops).
I joined PMHS because of its amazing resources for pre-med professional development and its amazing people! I knew this was an environment where I could grow, better achieve my goals, and find this amazing supportive community of other pre-meds with similar interests. The experience has been amazing and I love how diverse the events are, from panels to workshops to socials! I truly feel that I have learned so much and feel better prepared for the medical school application and MCAT!
This year, I am looking forward to finishing the semester strong and enjoying the holidays with my family! Also excited for another semester with PMHS! 🙂
