– Our Spring 2020 application is CLOSED –
The Pre-Medical Honor Society (PMHS) is a student organization in which pre-medical students who have achieved academic excellence can further their understanding of the study and practice of medicine through various opportunities made available to our members. We are the only pre-medical organization directly sponsored by the College of Letters and Science on campus.
Meet Our Members: Kendyl Naugle
Kendyl is a senior majoring in Integrative Biology and minoring in Early Childhood Development & Education and Global Public Health. Here’s a brief Q&A with her:
Q: What aspect of medicine are you most interested in?
KM:Broadly, I’m most interested in bridging the gap between the physical and the social sides of medicine. I believe a person’s mental, emotional, and spiritual health are as important as their physical health! More specifically, I’d love to be able to practice this philosophy in either the fields of Pediatrics or Maternal/Fetal medicine, with a huge emphasis on mental health and support for ALL community members to have access to care! (:
Q: Where are you from? What do you miss most about home?
KM:I’m from super southern San Diego, from a town called Chula Vista, and live about ten minutes from the border with Mexico. I truly love how strong the Mexican cultural influences are in my hometown, and never realized how unique the atmosphere of my town was until I moved to Berkeley!
Q: What’s your favorite college memory (so far)?
KM:This is honestly so hard, but being able to travel to Peru with MEDLIFE was easily the most life-changing experience I had these last four years, and was also probably the happiest I’ve ever been! (‘:
Q: What are some of your hobbies?
KM:I love hiking, playing piano, watching movies, and playing brain-teaser riddle games! (Nerdy, I know!)
Q: If you weren’t pre-med, what career path would you have chosen?
KM:As an alternative to med school, I would definitely be interested in pursuing work in either psychology or social work. However, in another life, I could definitely also see myself working in the design industry – I love interior design! (:
Q: If you had to eat one food, every day for the rest of your life, what would you choose?
KM:One word: hummus.
